The Firm participated in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning on Friday 29th September 2017 for the 5th year running to raise money for Macmillan.
The Coffee Morning is the charity’s biggest fundraising event and last year it raised an enormous amount of money - £29.5 million. Its main sponsors are Marks and Spencer but up and down the Country, schools, offices, churches and individuals host coffee mornings to raise as much money as they can.
This year, we raised £462.25 due to the generosity of our staff and guests, who donated money in exchange for a cuppa and a cake, entered the guessing games and bought cakes. As in previous years, the bakers at the Firm did us proud; Victoria sponges, chocolate cakes, brownies, cup cakes, rocky road, cheesecakes and carrot cake to name but some of the homemade goodies that were for sale.
This year for the first time we also held a Bake Off … a Flapjack challenge, judged by the Firm's senior partner, David Bacon. There were 11 entries, ranging from plain traditional flapjacks to others embellished with chocolate decoration or containing fruit, chocolate and spices. David took on his own challenge—sampling all 11 entries, making notes and deciding on the best three! MacMillan Volunteer, Carol McCosh arrived just in time to hear Partner Susan Owens and Property secretary, Anna Crumpton announced as runners up before Head of Conveyancing, Kathryn Frisby was declared the winner!
It was a great morning and we were delighted to get involved in raising money for this very worthwhile charity. Many thanks to all of our staff and guests for helping us to support MacMillan.
