Subject to the terms of the scheme (and our team’s capacity), we are happy to offer appointments at any of our offices, for advice and the preparation of simple Wills.
Appointments are available at our London office at 44 Southampton Buildings, as well as our Northampton and Kettering offices.

How Does the National Free Wills Network Work?
Under the National Free Wills Network scheme, we agree to prepare simple Wills for a reduced fee, which is payable by the referring charity. This means that eligible clients can benefit from having a simple Will prepared by a solicitor free of charge, subject to the terms of the scheme.
There is no obligation on clients to leave a gift to charity in their Will. However, many clients choose to do so as they know that the charity is paying a fee towards the preparation of the Will.
Leaving a gift in your Will costs you nothing now, but it can make a difference in the future. A charitable gift can also represent only a small percentage of the overall value of your estate, leaving you free to provide for family, friends, and others who are important to you.
What Is Included in a Simple Will?
A simple Will is a legally valid document in which the person making the Will names an executor(s), the beneficiaries of their residuary estate, appoints guardians for minor children, and records simple funeral wishes.
Making a Will gives greater certainty and peace of mind. It helps ensure that the wishes of the person who is making the Will (known as a testator or testatrix) are known to their family and friends and are therefore carried out.

Can Couples Make Simple Mirror Wills?
Yes, couples can make simple Wills which reflect each other’s wishes, and these are referred to as simple mirror Wills.
When Might Additional Charges Apply?
Not every Will can be dealt with as a simple Will under the National Free Wills Network scheme. We may need to make an additional charge where further advice or more complex drafting is required. This can include matters involving the following: –
- Estates with a substantial value
- Inheritance tax,
- Number and/or identity of beneficiaries or because of the way in which you are making gifts,
- Discretionary or life interest trusts,
- Complex family circumstances
- Conditional gifts
- Care fees
Please note that this list is not exhaustive. If we are unable to complete the work under the scheme and it is necessary to make an additional charge to you, we will explain this to you and agree the charges with you, before carrying out any additional work on your behalf.

However, appointment availability is subject to the capacity of our team, and we are not always able to offer an appointment immediately.

Frequently Asked Questions About the National Free Wills Network
If your Will falls within the definition of a simple Will under the scheme, the referring charity pays an agreed fee to BMTC Law, there is no charge to you for preparing that simple Will. If your circumstances require additional advice or more complex work, there may be an additional cost. The Will writer completing the work for you will explain and agree any additional charges with you before carrying out that work.
No, you are not obligated to leave a charitable gift in your Will in order to use the National Free Wills Network scheme. Many people do choose to include a charity in their Will, but the decision is entirely yours.
If additional legal advice or more complex drafting is required, our team will explain what work falls outside the National Free Wills Network scheme and tell you what the additional cost will be.
